Keshawn’s Korner is working to change the conversation around youth mental health and suicide prevention, with a particular focus on African American and Black youth in St. Petersburg.

Madeira Public Relations helped the organization bring that message to a broader audience through media coverage of its second annual Six Thirteen Youth Mental Health Awareness & Suicide Prevention Resource Fair. Securing coverage was especially meaningful because the event took place during a weekend dominated by major breaking national news.

More than 250 people attended the resource fair, which brought families and community organizations together to connect young people with support and create space for open conversations about mental health.

Madeira developed the media pitch and provided guidance on how to approach reporters during a busy news weekend.

The outreach resulted in a Tampa Bay 28 story about the event. Keshawn’s Korner was also included in the station’s News to Know coverage, extending the reach of the original report.

Madeira also helped secure an interview for Keshawn’s Korner on the St. Pete Catalyst’s Impact Catalyst. The longer-form conversation gave the organization another opportunity to discuss its mission and the personal experiences behind its work

We also conducted media training to help the organization’s founder prepare to discuss a deeply personal mission with confidence and stay sharply focused on her core messaging.

Madeira’s work with Keshawn’s Korner was provided through a combination of pro bono support and a grant awarded by Hypatia Collaborative.
